Wilderness Basics teaches shelter, fire and food in three hours at Ijams Nature Center Saturday
Thrive, not just survive, the park says.

Outside can be a scary place, the course description admits: bears, winter storms, critters and mountains. Wilderness Basics is the park's introductory answer, three hours on Saturday morning learning to prioritize in a survival scenario, build a shelter, start and keep a fire, and find and store food, with some walking between the lessons. It is for ages fourteen and up, fifteen dollars, and it starts at nine from the visitor center at 2915 Island Home Avenue with the parking fee waived for the class. The waiver at ijams.org/waiver covers you for the year.
