An author reads her own book at Saturday storytime at the Nature Playscape
The free Saturday storytime out by Mead's Quarry hands the book to the person who wrote it this week — Mona Martin Batchelor, reading from a children's book that isn't published yet.

Storytime at the Ijams Nature Playscape runs every Saturday morning from ten to noon and costs nothing: somebody reads a book out loud on the blankets, and then it is a craft or it is the climbing logs and the creek. This Saturday the reader is the author. Mona Martin Batchelor will read from "Nora T and the Champion Tree," a children's book of hers that has not been published yet.
Why the Playscape is the right room for it
The Playscape is five acres of deliberately unfinished woods at the Grayson Subaru Preserve — dirt to dig, logs to climb, a creek to stand in. A book about a champion tree read out loud under actual trees is the kind of thing that only works in a place like this, and it is free, which means a family can show up on a whim and leave when the two-year-old is done.
It is a short walk from the Mead's Quarry gravel lot. Saturday will be hot — mostly sunny and around 94 — but the ten-to-noon window is the cool half of that, and the Playscape is shaded.
