Ijams Park and Central Cinema have been running Movies Under the Stars on the Visitor Center lawn since May, and Friday is the big one: Lord of the Rings, outdoors, on a screen, with the actual woods sitting right there behind it. The gate opens at seven and the movie starts when it gets dark, which the park puts at about 8:15.
What to expect on the lawn
Twelve dollars a head, with a discount for Ijams and Central Cinema members. Food trucks and the beer garden handle dinner and drinks — no coolers and no outside alcohol, which the park is direct about. Bring a chair or a blanket. Dogs are allowed and have to be leashed the whole time, and on a Friday night with a crowd that is a rule worth taking seriously.
Two left after this
The series has one more date after Friday — Carrie on October 2, which tells you where the calendar is heading. Buy ahead if you can; the park does not promise walk-up tickets. Friday's forecast is mostly sunny and around 94 with a slight chance of an evening storm, so check the event page before you load the car.
