Scruffy Roots Fest, WDVX's free celebration of East Tennessee Americana, has a new date on the lawn at Kern's: Sunday, October 25, gates at noon and music from one to seven thirty. The poster Kern's put up last Tuesday stamps it New Date and Second Annual, and the station's event page carries the schedule. Nobody pays to get in.
Six sets, on the hour
Texas Tony & the Tornado Ramblers open at one, Free Rein Bluegrass play at two, and Lazarus Lake, the Knoxville alt-country band led by songwriter Michael Jones, take the stage at three. EmiSunshine, who has played the Grand Ole Opry sixteen times and is still only twenty-two, is on at four. Yer Flowers play the hour from five, and Big Pink close the day from a quarter past six to seven thirty.
The practical part
WDVX says to bring a lawn chair and hang out for the day; vendors, food and drinks are on site, and the food hall behind the lawn is open nine to nine. Sunday is sunny and 73, the fourth clear day in a row, so the grass will be dry. The Titans host the Browns at one if someone in your party needs a screen; the bars inside have them.
