The East Tennessee Bluegrass Association and Ijams Nature Center run a community jam on the third Sunday of every month, and the listing for October 18 is emphatic about one thing: this event will be held at Mead's Quarry, not up at the visitor center. Two to five, all skill levels. The first hour is the beginner jam, and from three the circle opens to every jammer who shows up.
The rules of the circle
Acoustic bluegrass instruments only, which the listing clarifies as no harmonicas or spoons at this time. Not a musician? The listing says come out and enjoy the music anyway; it is always free and open to the public. Sunday is sunny and 68 after the front, the quarry water will be the color it gets in October, and the Fall Festival on the Kern's lawn starts at the same hour a mile and a half north, so the afternoon has a choice in it.
