If you kept meaning to get out to Shakespeare at Ijams Park and never did, this is the weekend the window closes. The Tennessee Stage Company's thirty-sixth festival plays its final four nights on the lawn, with King Henry V and The Merry Wives of Windsor trading places one last time.

The move to make is Thursday. Henry V — the big, rousing one, Agincourt and the St. Crispin's Day speech — is the week's pay-what-you-can night, so it costs whatever you decide. Bring a chair or a blanket, because the lawn is the seating, and parking's free starting thirty minutes before the 7:30 curtain. Kids under fifteen get in free through Penny for the Arts. Everyone else, twenty dollars.

Friday brings the comedy, Merry Wives, and Saturday swings back to Henry V. Then Sunday the whole thing moves indoors to the Visitor Center for a proper send-off: a two o'clock matinee and a 7:30 evening show, both of them Merry Wives — Falstaff getting his comeuppance twice in one day. If it rains any night, the Visitor Center is the backup, so weather isn't automatically a washout.

One small heads-up from the box office of experience: the online ticket page has been a little inconsistent on price from night to night. If a screen quotes you something odd, twenty is the number, and 865-546-4280 settles anything else.

Here is a date worth marking: July 21, this past Tuesday, was the contract completion date for the Sevier Avenue roadway project — the big rebuild that includes the new roundabout at Sevier, Foggy Bottom, and Island Home. If you've driven it lately, you already know it isn't finished. The city's own July status report confirms it: crews are still working the drainage system on the south side and making their way west, and, in the report's quiet phrasing, "the contract time was extended."

That's not a scandal — big streetscape jobs slip, and this one has to hand off between a roadway contractor and a separate utility-undergrounding crew whose own work runs into the fall. But it's worth saying plainly, because the city has floated "early 2027" for the roundabout, and a deadline that arrives and passes without much fanfare is exactly the kind of thing the Ear is here to notice.

And a mile up the hill, the other South Knoxville land-use story we've been tracking hasn't moved either. The roughly 220-unit apartment plan for the old Kerbela Shriners Temple site was remanded back to the Administrative Review Committee two weeks ago — and it still hasn't been rescheduled. It's not on the Planning Commission's next agenda, August 13. For now, the bluff waits.

One more, on a scale you might actually walk past. If you've noticed a little "VARIANCE" sign staked in the grass over on Jonathan Avenue and wondered what it meant, here's the answer: a homeowner asked the city's Board of Zoning Appeals — a separate board from the Planning Commission, the one that hears requests to bend a single rule for a single property — to build three feet closer to the corner than the setback normally allows, twelve feet instead of fifteen. It went before the board Tuesday afternoon. Not a development, not a fight — a corner lot and three feet. But it's exactly what those roadside signs are usually about, and now you know.

Not everything in this week's Ear is happening for the first time this weekend — some of it has just been waiting for us to catch up. Mimosas opened last November on the ground floor of The Davy, the apartment high-rise at Blount Avenue and Chapman Highway, and somehow we haven't sent you there yet. Fixing that now.

It's an all-day brunch-and-cocktails room from Kennedy Concepts — the group behind Cafe 4 and The Kennedy downtown — built around exactly what the name promises. Bottomless mimosas on the weekend, five-dollar mimosas and six-dollar Bloody Marys any day, and a proper brunch menu Saturday and Sunday from nine to three. There's a happy hour on weekdays, three to six, if a Tuesday needs saving.

One housekeeping note, because we like to get these right: the address turns up two ways online — 222 East Blount Avenue in most listings, a Mimosa Avenue number on a couple of others. It's the ground floor of The Davy at Blount and Chapman; you'll find it. Brunch is a walk-in kind of morning, so you can just show up — but if you'd rather lock in a table, reserve on Resy.

For a month, the big outdoor screen at Kern's was the neighborhood's World Cup living room. The tournament wrapped Sunday, and rather than go quiet, the food hall leaned into what it does the rest of the year — a weekend of live music with a barn dance bolted on.

Friday's the anchor. The Corey Clifton Band plays a rock set from five to a quarter of eight, timed to hand the night straight off to the main event — the Kern's Ho'Down Social, eight to eleven, moved indoors right inside the hall. This is the one to clear your Friday for: honest-to-goodness country dancing, two-steps and line dances, boots encouraged and no partner required. Never done it? That's the whole point — dust off your boots and come find out.

The rest of the weekend keeps the music going. Saturday afternoon brings a candle-making class, then Rossdafareye's loopy "Appalachian space funk" at six. And Sunday winds down easy with the Chattanooga duo Kaylee Brooks and Levi Ouimet, country covers and originals, one to four.

And it's not all music: Friday still brings half-price bottles of wine at Eggspectation, the sit-down spot inside the hall, from three o'clock on. Call it proof the party didn't stop when the World Cup trophy got handed out — Kern's just swapped the big screen for a band and a bottle.

Earl's keeps its weekday happy-hour rhythm on the waterfront. Thursday it's ten-dollar Patrón mango margaritas; Friday the spicy pineapple ritas we told you about last week are back at nine, both in the four-to-six window, both with a dollar off liquor, beer, and wine on the side. Daily specials excepted, as always.

And the same handy fact still applies: Friday's happy hour lets out at six, ninety minutes before Shakespeare's curtain up the road. Some plans just build themselves.

While the Bard has the lawn, the rest of Ijams Park runs its usual gentle slate. Friday and Saturday both offer a guided Evening Paddle at 7:30, sunset on the Tennessee River with boats provided — register ahead. Saturday fills in around it: free storytelling at the Nature Playscape from ten to noon, and a three-hour Wilderness Basics class in the afternoon for anyone who wants to be a little more capable outdoors.

But the one to circle is Sunday at 7:30 in the morning, when the bird-banding table is back after a couple of weeks off. Researchers net, measure, band, and release wild songbirds close enough to count the feathers — real science, all ages, coffee encouraged.
